The rule was simple: fight until an undisputed winner appears. There were bets and villages could challenge each other, making this sport one of the most popular activities in Thailand. This beginning led to all the succeeding monarchs having to deal with the muay thai as an extension of their people. It happened in the domain of king-tiger Prachao Sua, who ruled from 1697 to 1709 known also by Khun Luang Sorasak. This monarch enjoyed and promoted competition and betting, a tradition still existing in Thailand. One episode tells that the king dressed in simple clothes and went to a place called Tambol Talad-guad. Accompanied by four real guards also in disguise, they were five outsiders who appeared for a boxing tournament. The prosecutor did not recognize the king or any of his companions, although he knew they came from Ayutthaya. He let them participate against the best fighters in the city of Wisetchaichan. Nai Klan Madtai killer fists, Nai Yai Madlek iron fists, and Nai Lek Madnak hard fists, faced the king unknowingly, having all the chances of beating the sovereign. The king won the three bouts, only later to know who the three best fighters had lost. In love with this art he did not want his sons, the princes Petch and Porn, to stop enjoying his passion, training them himself muay thai, wrestling and sword fighting. After the king-tiger to Thailand lived the Ratanakosin era. The first period covers the reign of Rama I until King Rama IV, from 1782 to 1868. At that time, as we have already mentioned, muay thai was considered an art of struggle. In order for this art to become more social, to the point of practicing as a sport, it was necessary to eliminate some practices and to define some rules. Up to that point the match had no breaks, it continued uninterrupted until an undisputed winner was found. This procedure could not continue if the aim was to socialize the game. However, another problem arose, the clock was not within reach of most of the populations who practiced muay thai at the time.
