In Portugal kickboxing began to be practiced in 1975 with the designation of full contact. If we consider pioneers the athletes who founded the first association of this modality, in Portugal they were the master Carlos Ramjanali, the master António Duarte and Luís Gomes. In 1975 Portugal was permeable to a series of habits and customs, coming from its former colonies. Martial arts and combat were one of many things absorbed by the Portuguese population at the time. From Angola comes one of the most enigmatic and consecrated masters of recent times. Mestre Ruy Mendonça returned to Portugal in the post-revolution period and in 1975 brought together former practitioners from Angola and other national enthusiasts, starting at a school gym located in Feio Terenas street, to practice a combat art developed between Angola and the East called kung -dowry. In three years he manages to make athletes a powerful fighting art that wanders between karate and boxing styles
