After an unsuccessful attempt at its officialisation, a harsh persecution of full contact practitioners begins. These were forced to lie and to train behind closed doors, often being questioned by the police responding to be training karate to avoid problems and detentions. In 1976 the laws of free associativism were modified in Portugal, which allowed to create the first full contact association of Lisbon. On 7 June 1978, with its own statutes, the first Full Contact Association of Lisbon was created, which operated until January 1988. In 1978 the Portuguese athletes had the first possibility to participate in national and international competitions organized by the Association Portuguese of Full Contact
